Course Summary

Computer vision is the process of extracting meaning from pixels and performing visual tasks similar to what our eyes, our visual system, would. Interest in how machines ‘see’ and how computer vision can be used to build products for consumers and businesses and interest from businesses in this area is growing rapidly.

This course developed by the University of Strathclyde in collaboration with CENSIS, Scotland’s innovation centre for sensing, imaging and internet of things technologies, will introduce you to the concepts of computer vision and will demonstrate benefits and potential applications.

By taking part in this course, participants will:

• Gain an understanding of what is meant by ‘computer vision’ and how it was developed
• Learn where computer vision can be used and consider examples of computer vision across a range of applications
• Learn what makes a computer vision system and the technical considerations when implementing such systems
• Learn how a computer vision system processes images. This will introduce concepts such as embedded vision, machine learning, and deep learning
